The Französischer Dom on Gendarmenmarkt is a unique concert venue with exceptional acoustics. The sacred architecture of the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche creates ideal conditions for classical music, church concerts, and special musical events.

Experience concerts on our historic Steinway grand piano from 1963, attend church concerts by the Huguenot congregation, or enjoy special events such as the popular candlelight concerts. The unique atmosphere of the over 300-year-old building makes every concert evening an unforgettable experience.

Modest Mussorgsky’s 1874 piano cycle achieved worldwide fame through Maurice Ravel’s orchestration. Now, electronic music pioneer Wolfgang “Paule” Fuchs (of the band POND) presents a new crossover arrangement. This unique live concept combines modern electronic music with lighting design and visual projections. A narrator also provides accessible explanations of the paintings to engage audiences of all ages. The Französische Dom as a concert venue

The Französische Friedrichstadtkirche offers ideal conditions for concerts of various genres. The unique combination of historical ambience, exceptional acoustics, and modern event technology makes every concert visit a special experience.

Exceptional acoustics

The sacred architecture of the church ensures a warm, natural sound with a reverberation time that particularly enhances acoustic instruments, singing, and chamber music. Both quiet, intimate moments and powerful forte passages unfold their full effect here. These acoustic properties have made the Französischer Dom a valued venue for musical performances for centuries.

Historic Steinway grand piano

Our Steinway & Sons concert grand piano (model KM182, built in 1963) was carefully restored by Klangmanufaktur Hamburg and brought up to concert standard. The instrument offers pianists a full, balanced sound and precise mechanics of the highest standard. During the restoration, special emphasis was placed on sustainability—from lead-free brass key weights to ecological hard oil instead of plastic-based varnish. 

Diverse concert program

From classical piano recitals and chamber music to modern candlelight concerts, our program appeals to a wide range of music lovers. Church concerts by the French community combine sacred music with a liturgical context, while jazz and world music artists use the historic rooms for innovative formats.

Central location on Gendarmenmarkt

The Französischer Dom is located directly on Gendarmenmarkt, one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. After the concert, you can round off the evening at the Hugo & Notte restaurant, enjoy a stroll across the illuminated square, or discover the nearby restaurants and bars on Friedrichstraße. Excellent public transport connections make getting there easy.

Parking is available near the Französischer Dom: there are several parking garages in the area, such as the Gendarmenmarkt parking garage and the Französische Straße underground parking garage. However, due to the good public transport connections, we recommend traveling by subway or bus.

Can I take photos during the concert?

Whether you are allowed to take photos during the concert: Photography and video recordings are not permitted during concerts so as not to disturb the artists and visitors. You may take photos of the premises during the intermission and before and after the concert.

Is there an age restriction for concerts at the Französischer Dom?

There is generally no age restriction for concerts. Most events are suitable for all age groups. For special formats such as family concerts, you will find information in the concert description.
